‘Batter me with your favourite putter for leaving out Ian Woosnam or your granny's old wooden racket
for overlooking Virginia Wade, but this book is a serious attempt to name Britain's 100 greatest sporting
heroes. Some are simply heroic - Martin Johnson, John Charles - others are heroic because they achieved
great things despite being blessed with few advantages - Jocky Wilson, Mary Rand. A number of
omissions pained me. David Beckham, Len Hutton and Paula Radcliffe to name but three.’
Jon Henderson

Here’s your chance to cast your vote and put Jon straight

Let us know which sporting hero you think should have been included in Best of British and you will be in
for a chance of winning a miniature, framed cricket bat signed by, among others, four former England
captains: Ian Botham, David Gower, Mike Atherton and Nasser Hussain! Five runners-up will
receive a signed copy of Best of British.
